Siurana: A Limestone Paradise in Catalunya | Sport Climbing
It's been near a decade since I was last in Spain sport climbing, but after many years dedication to Trad Climbing, Big Wall and Alpine rock, I am psyched again for clipping bolts! Sport Climbing gets you fit unlike any other discipline in climbing - you just can't get that same balance of finger strength, power and forearm endurance when Trad Climbing, and I realised that if I want to climb some of my big trad projects back home in Scotland, I'd need to be capable of climbing 9a in sport!
This film follows me and my friends as we learn to climb hard sport climbs in Spain, in the process getting a few hard sport projects and building fitness for the epic trad climbs that await elsewhere.

100 miles of the mainland of Scotland, 60km of the Outer Hebrides and the western most tip of the UK, St Kilda is the most remote group of islands on the British isles. In some ways, it's easier to go and attempt Everest than it is to organise a sailing expedition to St Kilda, and I guarantee you, more people have summited Everest than have climbed on St Kilda! After Robbie Phillips and Alex Moore climbed "The Longhope Direct" E10, they still weren't done... Robbie had found unclimbed lines on the sea cliff known as Rora Head, including a gnarly and very bold line which could be a contender for the scariest climb in the Orkney islands. This is only Part 2 of 3 of the "Climbing on Hoy" series, the third instalment "STACKED" coming to RUclips in March, ...

    Forgotten Advice: Dont be discouraged by "beginner" tech. Products are marketed to have a "beginner, intermedite, pro" teirs which honestly, all have their specific usecase. Unlike cycling, where more money = better cylcing; with climbing its more money = different usecase. To be real most of us climbing aren't doing anything different than what a beginner would also be doing, so getting "pro" gear wont change the climbing experience (unless you're packing your wallet with you which it could be helpfull if you made it lighter in advance). If you trust beginner-tech rentals (what most rental and studios offer) for bringing a family or friend along on an adventure, then there is no need to spread your wallet beyond beginner-tech to own and take home.

      You've no idea mate hahaha That was our first trip to check the place out... I went back and retraced the steps of the St Kildans, making the first repeat in 140 years of one of their hardest climbs "The Thumb" on Stac Briorach, an account of which I found written in Martin Martins 1697 book on St Kilda. We collaborated with the NTS and there is numerous articles online about this and a film in the making. So I think I do have a clue.

Already got a pair of Borel Jokers, which are a good bit stiffer and more comfortable so decent for outside and training, but I’m definitely needing something softer and more aggressive for rathos over hangs and some slabby boulder nonsense (the good stuff)

    I'm really impressed by this. We just climbed these three stacks over four days and used this vid for some helpful beta. We came over from Sweden not really expecting anything (except bad weather maybe) and only really hoping to do the Hoy and see some grass and sheep. However the weather last week was exceptional and we grabbed the moments and managed to get all three done i a couple of days. We're of course impressed with that you climbed all of them in 24 h but even more that you actually managed to get between them in this time. Hats of lads! That's effin insane! We're happy with how our little roadtrip turned out and that we got to experience this part of the world in such amazing weather. We still have a week left here, any places in Scotland you would recommend us going climbing while we're at it?

    • @RobbiePhillips
      @RobbiePhillips Месяц назад

      Wow! Great effort on the three and I'm super happy to hear that the video helped. I'd really recommend going to Skye before you go home - if you want a fun mountain challenge thats mostly walking/scrambling and a tiny bit of rock climbing, the Cuillin Ridge is a mega thing to do. I've done it twice but planning again this year - the views are incredible and if you get the conditions its probably the best day out in Scotland (if you do it in a day - most do over 2 days). Also tower ridge on Ben Nevis would be a fun big day out and you'd tick the UK's highest mountain.

      @@RobbiePhillips Thanks Pal. Climbed at Stac Pollaidh, which was beautiful, before heading down to Fort William for some mountain biking. Scrambled up the Tower ridge, as recommnded which was fun but made the mistake of walking down the highway instead of a more direct and less crowded decent. Never the less, a fun day out! Thanks for the tips! Super impressed with the richness of Scottish climbing and will likely head over again. Peace out!

    As a climber and sufferer from Raynauds; it feels like the body just 'gives up' on trying to supply blood to the fingers too quickly, so my approach is basically do anything to prevent that mechanism from kicking in Here will come a list of things that I think worked for me, but it's just very hard to say what does and doesn't work 1) Wear non-restrictive clothing and no big thermal differences between body and extremities If that means taking off a layer for the climb, I do it. If it's not raining, I'd rather wear a tshirt and loose-fitting oversized breathable down jacker than a 3-4 layering system that ends up feeling restrictive. So for climbing, I have 1 shirt i climb in, and a big down jacket with hand pockets. I do not wear long--sleeved shirts/jackets that are tight, or too short around the wrist. So either a tshirt, a shirt with sleeves that surpass my wristline, and then optionall with a softshell over it to block out any wind. 2) cold showers, saunas. No need to go full wim hoff; even 20 seconds cold-ish shower after a warm shower helped. 3) ginger tea. I just add some cut ginger root to my tea in the thermos flask 4) nerve flossing (plenty of youtube vids) and nerve trigger point / deep tissue massages. There are also plenty shoulder warm-ups that also bring some movement into the nerve system as well as warm up the muscles; you can google tai chi warmup for ideas 5) I also have the feeling that going keto / low-carb for a while helped me. Not sure whether it was the all-around effect of the diet, or the removal of things like gluten/yeast/sugars from my diet. 6) When I do have issues with Raynauds, and I start to exercise (ice climbing for example), at some point the blood will start flowing and will hurt like a m.f. If I reach this point, I put my hands in the snow, or in cold/running water. I really do think start off the day with either a cold shower, or other cold exposure, will help for the rest of the day, assuming afterwards you get some blood flow / adrenaline going and get warm again. It's a weird relationship
